Rick works as an all-hazards all-agencies risk analyst in the ACT. He has been especially involved in bushfire risk for over three decades. He was Planning Officer for the 2003 Canberra wildfires. Since then, as a research scientist, he has been closely involved in international collaborations to learn what happened in that event and how to mitigate the impact of future events.
