Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, QLD, Australia

  • This delegate is presenting an abstract at this event.
At his current rank of Chief Superintendent, Andrew is currently the Director of Professional Development for the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services. In this role he is responsible for the conduct of professional development across QFES. A big believer in life-long learning, Andrew strongly supports the simple notion that everyone can learn something new - everyday. In line with this belief, Andrew was in 2009 awarded a Masters Degree in Leadership and Management from Charles Sturt University. Given his earlier role in managing an operational command, Andrew is no stranger to the challenges associated with providing effective emergency management. Ever passionate about the benefits of getting these aspects right, Andrew has maintained an active interest in investigating how organisationals may do better with how they lead, manage and train to achieve the outcome of operational excellence. Andrew was acknowledged for his achievements in these and other QFRS operational areas in 2007 when he was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal, the highest national award for fire service officers in Australia. He is also a life member of the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland. Andrew is married with two teenage children, and with his family enjoys traveling within (and outside of) Australia. Andrew is an avid ship wreck scuba diver, and uses this sport as a means of gaining respite from the work occasions where people walk in and ask “have you got a minute to discuss a HR issue”? He also enjoys the fact that iPhones don’t do too well 40 metres underwater.
